Liverpool and Manchester United will be slightly disappointed to hear that Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka has decided to stay in Germany and sign a new deal with Bayern Munich, allowing him to join the Champions in the summer.
Although confirmed interest from Liverpool was sketchy at best, United have certainly shown interest, or at least Mourinho did when he was in charge of Chelsea.
The 22 year old has received rave reviews over the last year and a half and it has now been confirmed that the youngster has completed a medical and signed a pre-contract agreement. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool and United actually held as much interest in the player as the media have made out.
The biggest loser in this deal is not Liverpool or Manchester United though, with Schalke losing one of their most promising players without gaining the type of fee he would likely have demanded if there were more than 6 months left on his contract.
With Emre Can possibly departing this summer Liverpool will surely begin to look elsewhere whereas Manchester United’s preferred choice is Milinković-Savić.
