AS Roma have ended their interest in Manchester United defender Daley Blind, as they decide to move for Sporting Lisbon’s Jonathan Silva.
Blind has been made available by Manchester United as the Dutch man has just 6 months left on his current deal. He has been declared surplus to requirements by Jose Mourinho despite the Red Devils having only Ashley Young and Luke Shaw as options at left back.
Blind was signed by Van Gaal when the former Holland manager took over at Manchester United in 2014, but he never won over the club’s fans with many believing that he was signed just because he was a Dutch man.
Roma were looking to sign him as a replacement for Emerson Palmieri who has joined Chelsea for £17 million. But they have turned their attention to Sporting Lisbon’s Jonathan Silva who is cheaper and younger.
Silva, 23, joined Sporting Lisbon from Estudiantes in the year 2014 for £2 million and he has spent the last 3 years on loan with Boca Juniors before returning at the start of this season. He has made 13 appearances for Sporting this season and joins Roma for just £5.2 million.
Blind would now look to run down his Manchester United contract and join any other team for free after this season.
