Arsenal could be set to replace Nacho Monreal this summer despite his good performances in the last season. The Spaniard was almost an ever present in Arsene Wenger’s last season at the Emirates and notched up six goals from left back.
However, his current Arsenal deal has just a single season to run on it and the 32 years old is attracting the attention of Real Sociedad. Sociedad believe the Spanish veteran may be willing to return home and their club president is pushing to land him.
Sun Sport is reporting that after five-and-half seasons in the Premier League Unai Emery who is looking to stamp his authority on the Gunners’ squad may allow him leave so that he can bring a more youthful player into that position.
As the Spaniard looks likely to move, Arsenal have identified Real Betis’ Junior Firpo as his possible replacement. Firpo is can also able to fill in as a central defender and made 14 appearances last season, providing 4 assists.
His current contract at Betis runs until the summer of 2021 and has a £22 million release clause attached to it.
