Liverpool are on the verge of completing one of the most stunning transfers of our time as they close in on Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.
The Reds have been looking for a marquee signing to replace Philippe Coutinho who left Anfield in January and Jurgen Klopp sees Asensio as the ideal signing that would make a statement of intent.
Asensio was used heavily by Zinedine Zidane, playing over 50 games last season, however, he faces an uncertain future with Real Madrid continuing to try and sign Neymar from PSG.
The European champions’ president, Florentino Perez is desperate to bring Neymar back to the La Liga but knows that the world’s most expensive player of all time would not be an easy catch.
PSG would want a fee in excess of £264 million to even consider selling Neymar, so they know they have to sell.
Liverpool are reportedly keen on Asensio and the Reds are ready to pay as much as £176 million to get their man this summer. Asensio has been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG in the past, and his agent revealed in March that Real Madrid have rejected offers worth £132 million from Premier League clubs for his signature.
