Samuel Umtiti is using the interest in his signature from the Premier League to demand for better terms before signing a new Barcelona deal.
The French defender has been in inspiring form since he joined Barcelona last summer, and he is set to land a new deal with an increased buyout clause.
It was revealed last month that the French man’s buyout clause was less than £60 million making him a bargain target for Premier League sides. The two Manchester clubs as well as Chelsea were immediately linked with moves for the former Lyon defender.
Barcelona are reported to have offered him a new deal to ward of interest from teams like Manchester United, but Umtiti has asked them to match the weekly earnings that the Red Devils had promised him.
Manchester United reportedly offered to pay him £103,000 per week after tax and were ready to pay his £53 million release clause.
Umtiti still has a contract with the Catalans until the summer of 2021, but Barcelona do not want a repeat of the Neymar incidence anytime soon and they are desperate to increase Umiti’s release clause and extend the duration of his deal until 2024.
