Arsenal have completed the signing of former Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos for a reported fee of £16 million and the Greek defender has revealed the players who made it easy for him to join the Gunners.
According to him the Gunners have the duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to thank for him joining them instead of his other suitors.
The defender was a team mate of Aubameyang for five years and spend three years with Mkhitaryan at Dortmund and revealed his former teammates helped him determine that moving to London was the best thing to do.
He said: “I spoke to them a lot of times.
“They said the best [thing] about this club is that it’s one big family and they called me also – not every day but a lot of times – to come here.
“It’s a bit strange [playing with them at a second club] but it’s also very beautiful that I come into the team and have two players I was with for a lot of years and I know very well.”
Sven Mislintat has now signed the defender twice after bringing him to Dortmund in 2013.
