Manchester United are set to offload flop defender Matteo Darmian this summer, and the Italian’s move away appears closer than before after Napoli chief, Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms he wants to sign him.
Darmian has never been a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans since the Portuguese boss was made the manager of the Old Trafford Outfit in 2016, and the defender who was signed by Louis Van Gaal has simply stayed put because no team would meet the Red Devils’ demands.
However, with just one season left on his current deal, his transfer fee would be lowered except United wants him to leave them for free next summer.
Darmian has not had a shortage of takers with most of his interest coming from Italy, with the likes of Juventus and Napoli monitoring his situation. However, the latter seem to have stolen a march on the rest.
The club’s president was talking to an Italian radio and confirmed that he wants to sign the former Torino Man, he said: “There are five or six names on the list. We are monitoring Arias like Darmian, who can play on both flanks.
“Everybody would like to sign Darmian because of his versatility.”
