Chelsea are set to land former Napoli boss, Maurizio Sarri after he left his job as head coach of the Naples based side.
Sarri has been linked with the Chelsea job all summer after it became clear that Antonio Conte would not be given the chance to lead the Blues next season.
Sarri had previously failed to give the Napoli fans assurances over his future, and after negotiations over a new contract made little progress, the Italian club’s president decided to fire the former school teacher.
This move has now made it possible for him to join Chelsea as a replacement for Antonio Conte. The Italian won the FA Cup for the Blues this season to add to the Premier League trophy he won last season, but he did not wait for the celebration and jetted off straight to Italy, anticipating a call from the club that he has been relieved of his duties.
Conte has one more year left on his current £9 million a season deal at Stamford Bridge and the Blues would have to pay him off if they want to fire him now.
Sarri has reportedly rejected a new contract offer from Zenith Saint Petersburg said to be worth £5.2 million a season and many sees this as an indication that he is waiting on Chelsea.
