Manchester United may have their work cut out as they look to convince Nice midfielder, Jean Michel Seri to join them.
The Red Devils are in pole position to sign the Ivorian, but he is not their first choice and he has been advised not to join them unless he is their number one target.
Jose Mourinho wants a new midfielder to replace Michael Carrick who retires at the end of the season to join his backroom staffs. But the Portuguese manager sees Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal as his first choice.
The Red Devils anticipates difficulties in landing Vidal so they have decided to keep in touch with Nice as Seri is their alternative to the Chilean.
Seri has been impressing in the French Ligue 1 since he joined Nice 18 months ago and came very close to joining Barcelona last summer. However, the deal fell through but he is now more determined to force a move away.
Former France midfielder Olivier Dacourt has however, warned him not to join Manchester United claiming:
“Because of the competition in the big foreign clubs, it is necessary to see how they behave – personality is not enough.
“The point is not to go to the big club, it’s to play there. A good example is Bernardo Silva. Last year he had an extraordinary season with Monaco – at Manchester City he has more trouble”
