Manchester United had one of their most frustrating summers the last time out. Despite being the most valuable club in the World, Jose Mourinho failed to land his major transfer targets, and he was left fuming especially after he failed to sign a defender.
Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld, Leonardo Bonucci, were just some of the big name stars who the Red Devils wanted to sign, but they could not pull off any of the deals.
Fresh reports from Sun Sport have made even more damning revelations about the last transfer window. According to the reports, the Red Devils were keen to sign Mario Mandzukic this summer and made an offer for the Croatian; however, Mandzukic gave the move a thought, and rejected the offer.
Mourinho is reported to have personally called the former Bayern Munich star and plead for him to make the move to Old Trafford, but Mandzukic insisted that he was happy in Turin.
Mourinho had wanted to sign just a defender and a winger, however, after Anthony Martial began to ask for a move away from the Red Devils, they had to start looking for a replacement despite placing a £100 million price tag on him.
