Manchester United want to sign AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini as an alternative to Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Milinkovic-Savic is the Red Devil’s first choice, but they are not ready to stump up as much as £88 million that Lazio are looking for. The signing of Alexis Sanchez and his current wage would affect the Red Devils’ activity in the transfer market this summer and they are now looking for cheaper ways to add players to their squad.
Pellegrini joined AS Roma from Sassuolo last summer for £9 million and he has been impressive in his first campaign with Champions League semifinalists. He is valued at £35 million and would be a very good alternative to Milinkovic-Savic.
The Red Devils are looking to sign a new midfielder after finalizing their move for Fred. Fred is believed to be a replacement for Michael Carrick who retired at the end of this season, while Pellegrini is set to come as a replacement for Marouane Fellaini who has refused to sign a new Manchester United contract with his current deal just a few days from expiring.
Fellaini is looking for a longer contract but the Red Devils feel he is too old to be offered deal that is up to three years.
