Everton’s new manager, Marcos Silva is pursuing the signature of Manchester United’s Swedish defender, Victor Lindelof, just one season after he joined the Red Devils from Benfica.
Lindelof has struggled to impress since moving to England and Jose Mourinho has had to take him off the limelight for long periods of time as he continues to make shocking defensive errors.
Silva is looking to overhaul the Everton squad he has inherited from Sam Allardyce and sees Lindelof as a good option in defence. He has been promised huge transfer funds and wants to start restructuring the Toffees by fixing their leaky defence.
Everton’s new sporting director, Michael Brands seem to agree with Silva on the defender and they both drew the list of transfer targets that had Lindelof at the top.
Lindelof is with the Swedish national team preparing for this summer’s World Cup and he is hoping a good showing can earn him more respect from Jose Mourinho. But Mourinho is already looking for a new defence leader as he closes in on a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
Lindelof had a good reputation when he plied his trade in the Portuguese top flight and that may have led Marcos Silva to believe he can help him revive his career.
