Jose Mourinho is edging closer to getting the Brazilian star he craves for as Manchester United close in on the move for Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The former Chelsea boss admitted earlier in the season that he loves to sign Brazilian players and he was looking to sign a few more this season, but never gave the names of players he would love to sign.
However, with his squad thin in midfield following the retirement of Michael Carrick and the impending transfer of Marouane Fellaini, the club’s board has decided to fight off competition from Manchester City for the signature of Fred.
According to reports, he is expected to join the Red Devils for a fee of £50 million and they hope to finalize the deal before the start of the World Cup as his stock may rise if he has a good tournament in Russia.
Fred would be in England next week as Brazil play Croatia in a friendly game at Liverpool home of Anfield. More talks are expected to take place when he is in the north east.
Fred is not the only Brazilian on Jose Mourinho’s radar, with the Portuguese boss also plotting moves for Willian and Alex Sandro.
