Manchester City are tracking Ajax youngster Matthijs de Ligt and they want him to come in as a replacement for the ageing Vincent Kompany this summer.
The young defender has been scouted heavily by Europe’s top sides this season and he has reportedly told the Dutch giants that he wants to leave before the start of next season.
Kompany has been struggling with injuries over the past few seasons and his best years in a City shirt seems to be behind him although he remains one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted men.
The 18 years old De Ligt is a ball playing centre back, the type of player that Pep Guardiola loves to play at his defence and at such a young age, he played over 30 games for the Ajax first team last season.
Pep Guardiola is reportedly going to decide how many games the defender can play next season before the Cityzens make their move, they are also exploring the option of loaning him back to Ajax for the next two seasons.
The arrival of De Ligt could spell the end for England defender John Stones who was out of the first team picture when Aymeric Laporte joined the Premier League champions in January.
