Manchester City have been left short of options and frustrated ahead of the new season after they failed to secure a work permit for Douglas Luiz.
The Cityzens signed the 20 years old Brazilian last summer and sent him out on loan immediately to Girona. He starred for the Spanish side in their maiden season in the La Liga before returning to the Etihad to stake a claim for a place in their midfield.
City need an extra midfielder, but they were left red-faced after Jorginho made a dramatic U-turn on their agreement and signed for Chelsea instead this summer, they also missed out on Fred who moved across town to Old Trafford instead.
With no new arrivals, Pep Guardiola decided that Douglas Luiz and England teen sensation Phil Foden would be his backup option in midfield, so they made a passionate appeal to the FA to grant the Brazilian a work permit.
They made a video which feature Guardiola, Brazil’s national team manager, Tite who claimed that playing for City would help him get into the Brazilian national team, and former Arsenal midfield star, Edu. But the FA still rejected their appeal, it is believed that he could have been granted a work permit if he signed this summer.
He made 15 starts for Girona last season and has been a major part of City’s preparation for the new season.
