Interesting day for transfer rumours at Liverpool FC today with Aymeric Laporte being linked with the club. Guillem Balague has claimed that Liverpool did make enquiries early in the January window but that they baulked at the asking price of €70m, currently set in his “release clause”. It does appear to be an odd decision that they pulled out and then spent even more on VVD. Could this be the added value that experience in the Premiership brings to the table?
Could you imagine Liverpool having both though? They certainly have the funds to try again but Manchester City now look to be interested. With VVD still settling in it might be wise for Klopp to spend the money on a Coutinho replacement.
There is also huge news regards Monaco starlet Lemar with Yahoo Sport claiming that the player and Liverpool have actually got an agreement in place but there is no agreement with Monaco themselves who are holding out for a huge €100m. If there is indeed an agreement in place with Lemar then this will put Liverpool in pole position, raising the €100m will not be a huge issue but the club may be keen to look elsewhere.
The club are also keen on Bundesliga winger Christian Pulisic who currently plays for Borussia Dortmund. It is reported by Yahoo that negotiations for the American player could be difficult.
Former Liverpool midfielder Mascherano is off to China after being allowed to leave Barcelona. Is this a player fans would have liked to have seen a return of even if just for the remainder of the season?
One deal that won’t be happening with Liverpool said to not be interested is Brazilian striker Luan. The 24 year old who plays for Gremio had been linked after Coutinho became the subject of interest by Barcelona.
And finally, the Keita story simply won’t go away with some reporting that Liverpool just need to find an extra £12m to bring the midfielder in this January. This comes despite RB Leipzig officially stating he will not be moving this month.
