Liverpool’s swoop for Gremio’s Luan has suffered a major setback after SS Lazio registered an interest in signing the Brazilian.
The Reds made contact with the Brazilian and his club in the winter transfer window as they try to get a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, but the playmaker felt it wasn’t the right time for him to move to Europe, he subsequently signed a new Gremio deal.
However, it appears as though he wants to move now, but Liverpool are set to miss out on signing him.
Sun Sport claims that Lazio have made contact with the Brazilians and they have tabled a £13 million bid for the Copa Libertadores winner.
However, Gremio reportedly want a fee in excess of £20 million and they are holding out for more, a tactic to give Liverpool the chance to make their own counter-offer.
The Reds are not the only English team who are interested in signing Luan and Rafa Benitez has also been credited with an interest in the skillful attacker.
Luan was voted South American Player of the Year last year after leading Gremio to the South American Champions League crown. He also earned his maiden cap for the Brazilian national team.
