Liverpool are looking to convince Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon to come out of retirement and play for them, but they face competition from Manchester City.
The 40 years old goalkeeping legend will retire from football after winning the Italian Scudetto yet again with Juventus. He was scheduled to retire after this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia; however, Italy’s failure to qualify would make him retire early.
Surprisingly, Buffon is set to make a U-turn after claiming he has had interesting offers both on and off the pitch to remain in the game. One of the teams who are keen on getting Buffon out of retirement is Liverpool.
The goalkeeping department has been a major cause for concern for Liverpool in recent seasons and their current first choice, Loris Karius is still far from secured. Klopp is hoping to convince Buffon to give the Reds one more season behind the sticks.
Buffon has won several trophies in his career, but the Champions League is missing from his trophy cabinet after Juventus got knocked out by Real Madrid this season. Klopp hopes Liverpool can win this season’s edition to show him that he can win the European Cup with them.
