Liverpool and Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their quest to sign AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
The French winger came very close to joining one of the Premier League duos last summer, but he decided against making the move to further his development. However, with several of his former team mates leaving in that transfer window, he has underperformed this season.
Monaco were looking to tie him down to a new longer term deal, but Sun Sport is reporting that he has turned them down, instead choosing to keep his options open. The Municipal club was hoping to extend his current deal beyond 2020, but he has perhaps given them the clearest indication that he wants a transfer after this season.
Liverpool almost went back for him last month after selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, but Jurgen Klopp decided to wait until summer to land a replacement for the Brazilian.
Arsenal are still looking for a midfielder after selling Alexis Sanchez, but the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan may see them forget about Lemar for the moment except if they lose one of their midfielders to injury.
Independent Sports is reporting that Liverpool are his first choice when he does move. He has scored 2 times and provided 5 assists this season.
