Liverpool fans are currently enjoying the reign of their new manager Jurgen Klopp, but this season would be his 2nd full season with the Reds and their fans would soon begin to ask for trophies, including the elusive Premier League title.
The Reds have never won the Premier League since it was rebranded in the 1992/1993 season. They came close to winning it in the years 2002, 2009, and 2014, but the closest Jurgen Klopp has come to winning the title was topping the Premier League for a long time last season before his team struggled to finish 4th.
According to New York Times reporter Rory Smith, Klopp needs to sign a defensive midfielder if he wants to win the English top division title. According to Smith, all Klopp’s successful teams had a defensive midfielder who can influence the game from the number 6 position.
Liverpool have had to play with Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, and Giorgino Wijnalldum dictating the play from midfield, but the trio have suffered from inconsistencies which have affected their team at times.
Liverpool have secured the signing of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and the Guinean is expected to join them after this season. Their fans would be hoping he can help to dictate their team’s play as he did so often in the Bundesliga last season.
