Chelsea are preparing to sign Danielle Rugani this summer as the defender’s future has been thrown up in the air. The 23 years old has been struggling to make appearances in Turin despite being one of the most highly-rated defenders in Italy.
Rugani was expecting that he would play more last season after Leonardo Bonucci left to join AC Milan, however, that wasn’t the case and he thinks his future could be outside of Turin at the moment.
Rugani has been targeted by several top teams since the end of the season, with Arsenal also very keen on bringing him to the Premier League.
However, Football Italia claims that Chelsea are leading the race for his signature as they close in on naming Maurizio Sarri as Antonio Conte’s successor.
Sarri wanted to sign Rugani last summer when he was the manager of Napoli, but Juventus refused to sell. Sarri managed Rugani when they were both at Empoli before moving to Juventus in 2015.
Rugani’s agent is reported to have held talks with this week to discuss his client’s desire to leave Turin. He has a deal with the Old Ladies until the summer of 2021.
