Manchester United’s transfer activity this month is set to come to an end when they complete the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred from under the noses of Manchester City.
The Red Devils just completed a sensational switch for former Arsenal man, Alexis Sanchez and have been linked with move for Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal. But, Fred seems to be Jose Mourinho’s preferred choice.
The Brazilian is currently valued at £50 million by the Ukrainian league leaders and he is currently in talks with Manchester City over moving to the Etihad. But Mourinho likes his tough-tackling style in midfield and wants him to replace Michael Carrick.
Manchester City were keen on adding Fred this month, but have relaxed their pursuit as they seek to complete the signing of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao before the end of the season.
The race for his signature is now between the two Manchester giants and this battle could drive his transfer fee up. Additionally, with the interest in his services set to increase after this season, it seems as though Manchester United could agree a deal that would see him sign for them before being loaned back to the Ukrainians.
