Chelsea have been beaten to the signature of Aleksandar Golovin by AS Monaco.
The Blues have been tracking the Russian after a series of impressive performances for his country at the just concluded World Cup in his home land.
The Blues faced competition from several teams who have also been keeping an eye on him, and initial reports claimed that they have beaten the likes of Manchester United and Juventus to his signature.
However, that has proven to be untrue according the latest reports coming from Russia. The Russian media is filled with stories that Golovin has agreed to move to AS Monaco instead on a five years contract.
The French team’s president has also confirmed the news. Vadim Vasilyev claimed that the 22 years old took a long time to make his decision, but he has decided to join them.
He revealed: “Monaco and CSKA Moscow today agreed on the transfer of Golovin on a five-year contract.
“Honestly, until the last moment I was not sure that I would be able to co-ordinate this transfer.
“In addition to Chelsea, Golovin also claimed Juventus had interest. However, our main competitor was Chelsea.
“I believe that Monaco offered more favourable conditions for the club and a more understandable project for the player.”
The move is reported to have cost them £27 million.
