Chelsea’s pursuit of a replacement for Eden Hazard has been dealt a fresh blow after Leon Bailey agreed a new long term contract with Bayer Leverkusen.
The Jamaican has long been touted for a move to Stamford Bridge when Hazard eventually leaves to join Real Madrid, however, they would now have to look elsewhere or pay a higher transfer fee for the winger.
Bailey had a breakthrough season in the German Bundesliga the last time and his performances made several top European sides to continually scout him. However, after nothing came of it he has decided to sign an improved deal with the Germans.
Chelsea are not the only Premier League side who were linked with a move for Bailey. According to Sun Sport, Arsenal were also interested in signing the speedy Jamaican, while AS Roma also looked at the possibility of signing him after they missed out on the signing of Malcom from Bordeaux.
Bailey had earlier confirmed reports that several teams wanted to sign him. He told Sports Bild that: “There’s a lot of interest. What I can say is that my full focus is on developing myself as a young player, and that’s what I focus on.
“If a club wants me, my management and Bayer 04 will take care of it.”
