Chelsea have rejected an offer of £20 million from Arsenal for the signature of David Luiz as Unai Emery looks to bring in defensive reinforcements this season.
Luiz’s Chelsea career looks to be over after he fell out of reckoning under Antonio Conte last season. The only way back to contention for a place in Chelsea’s line up for him seems to be if Conte is given the boot.
The lack of clarity surrounding his future has led to links with some of Europe’s best sides including Napoli and Monaco. However, according to reports on Le10Sport, Arsenal are looking to steal a match on his other suitors and they made an opening bid for his signature which has been rejected.
The Gunners have yet to return with an improved bid, but Luiz is eager for his future to be sorted out after he played in just a few games last season. Despite being a firm fan favourite, his return to Stamford Bridge has not worked out as expected and he is eager to move on, if Conte remains boss.
The Gunners would most likely not return with an improved offer as Emery is working on a tight budget.
