Chelsea have agreed to loan Michy Batshuayi to Borussia Dortmund as they close in on a transfer for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
The Blues, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have been in talks over a striker merry-for-round for the past two days after Chelsea ended their pursuit of Roma’s Edin Dzeko.
Arsenal have been in talks with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang for £55 million. The deal was agreed, but the Germans insisted that he would only leave when they find a suitable replacement. They wanted Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, but the French man does not want to leave London, this allowed Chelsea to swoop.
The Blues made an initial offer of £15 million for Giroud but Arsenal rejected it claiming they want £35 million for the 31 years old. However, with their move for Aubameyang hinging on Michy Batshuayi’s move to Dortmund, and Chelsea refusing to sell unless they can get Giroud, Arsenal decided to accept an £18 million bid for Giroud.
Batshuayi is currently on his way to Germany and would spend the rest of the season with the Germans. They can sign him permanently next summer if he impresses them enough.
