Liverpool have been dealt a major blow in their quest to sign Barcelona winger, Ousmane Dembele just one season after he joined the Catalans from Borussia Dortmund.
Dembele has been targeted by Jurgen Klopp this summer as he looks to build on his team’s momentum from reaching the Champions league final this season. He was reportedly set to meet with Dembele’s mum later this month to discuss a move for the 21 years old.
Dembele has not been a regular since he moved to Barcelona with injuries and inconsistent form affecting his chances of getting into the Barcelona team, however, the Catalans are not in a hurry and signed him for his long term benefit not just one season.
Speaking at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu claims:
“… But Dembele is a very young player, a very talented player that we are, of course, expecting a lot from.
“He’s been demonstrating during the season that he’s a good young player for us.
“But, of course, next season will be different.
“It’s not easy to play in Barcelona the first year because the model of football is quite different from the rest.
“But after one year I’m sure we are going to see Dembele and Coutinho at a very high level.”
