Arsenal are still looking for their first signing under the leadership of Unai Emery after losing out to Liverpool in the race to sign Fabinho from AS Monaco.
The former PSG boss has been looking to overhaul the squad he has inherited from Arsene Wenger, yet there has still been no new signings through the door.
Reports from the Portuguese media via Sun Sport is claiming that the Gunners are looking to sign Sporting Lisbon ace Gelson Martins this summer, but they face competition from Juventus.
Emery believes the 23 years old would add speed to his attack and complement the pace of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang who is set to be the leading attacker for the Gunners this season.
Martins has been attracting the attention of Europe’s top sides for the past two seasons, and Liverpool wanted him to replace Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window. Arsene Wenger also attempted to sign him and William Cavalho when he was Arsenal’s manager.
He scored 13 goals and provided the same number of assists this season, and the Portuguese side seem reluctant to allow him leave. However, he has a release clause of £53 million and clubs can discuss with him if that is met.
