Arsene Wenger is confident of tying Jack Wilshere down to a new deal.
The England midfielder has been offered a new contract that lowers his current basic wage but increases his overall take home pay with incentives such as number of matches played as well as goals scored.
The midfielder is yet to agree on the new deal and with less than 6 months left on his current deal, some fans have begun fearing for the worst. He has also been attracting the attention of several Premier League sides with Liverpool reportedly offering to match and exceed whatever the Gunners are offering him.
However, Wilshere is keen to remain in London and perhaps more importantly at Arsenal. The midfielder has been with the Gunners since he was 8 and wants to finish his career with them.
This desire has given Wenger confidence that Wilshere will sign the new deal he has been offered. The French man also defended the reduced wage in the new offering, claiming a player with Wilshere’s injury record would always be treated differently.
According to Wenger, ‘We try to make progress and I told you that many times for [Mesut] Ozil,’
‘I’m positive because I want him to stay. I do the maximum I can to make him happy.’ he added.
