Arsenal have step up their pursuit of Besiktas captain Oguzhan Ozyakup.
The Turkish international was with the Gunners for four years as a youngster after joining them from Dutch side AZ Akmaar. He however failed to convince Wenger to offer him assurances of first team opportunities, so he left the Gunners in 2012.
He joined Besiktas for £500,000 and has built a stellar career for himself at a very young age. Still 25, he has won two consecutive Turkish league titles with Besiktas and he would be out of contract next summer.
He has refused to sign new terms with the Turkish champions, choosing to keep his options open for a better offer.
Arsenal had approached him before the close of the transfer window last month, but Turkish outlet, Aksam is claiming that the Gunners have now made him a huge offer to return to the Emirates.
The report further claims that Arsene Wenger has personally spoken to him to convince him that he would be a major team player.
The Gunners are looking for more midfielders ahead of next season as they expect to bounce back into the Champions League. They look more likely to miss out on qualification for Europe’s premier club competition again this season.
