Arsenal have been knocked back in their attempt to sign Sporting Lisbon star, Gelson Martins.
The Gunners have reportedly made an opening offer of £26 million for the attacker, but the Portuguese side are holding out for £39 million and they believe one of his suitors would pay that much.
Martins is said to be very furious at the club for rejecting the offer from the Gunners, as he is one of the club’s players actively looking for a move away after a turbulent season.
The club’s president threatened to suspend about 19 players earlier for poor performances, while a group of 50 fans attacked the team at their training base for failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Arsenal are expected to return with a much improved offer, but the Gunners may lose out on signing him entirely as Liverpool are also interested in his signature.
Jurgen Klopp is looking for depth in his attack and believes Martins can be a good alternative to one of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. The winger had a good season as he scored 13 and provided the same number of assists in 53 games this season.
