Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Benfica’s Serbian winger Andrija Zivkovic as Manchester United entered the race for his signature.
The 21 years old is one of the most watched players in the Portuguese league and Arsenal are his strongest suitors from the Premier League.
He has been described as the biggest Serbian talent coming through the Benfica team since Lazar Markovic broke through, and big things are expected of him.
According to FootMercato, Arsene Wenger asked for him to be watched again last Saturday as they prepare to steal a march on their rivals for his signature.
He scored in that game as Benfica ran out 3-1 winners over Portimonense. Manchester United also had scouts in that game are they prepared to fight with the Gunners for his signature.
Zivkovic is under contract with the Portuguese champions until 2021, but he is surprisingly valued at £6.3 million, a fee that would be too small for any Premier League side to pay.
Arsenal are planning a squad overhaul next summer, and Zivkovic is one of the players the Gunners wants to bring in. However, with Arsene Wenger’s future still unclear, they might miss out on signing the Serbian if he gets sacked.
