Arsenal could announce the signing of Bernd Leno today according to reports. The Gunners have been in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over the past couple of weeks after Unai Emery made the signing of a new goalkeeper his top priority head of the new season.
Reports from BBC and Bild claim that the two teams have already reached an agreement over the transfer of the former Stuttgart man. Leno missed out on the World Cup because of the return to fitness of Manuel Neuer as Joachim Low sees him as fourth choice behind Neuer, Kevin Trapp, and Marc Ter Stegen.
Respected transfer guru, David Ornstein tweeted about the transfer claiming;
“Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.
“Not done but set to be decided today & expected 26-year-old will join #AFC – unclear which current GK would make way.”
The Gunners are also closing in on Uruguayan midfielder, Lucas Torreira who is expected to complete a £26 million move from Sampdoria after the World Cup.
Ornstein also confirmed that talks with Sampdoria are making progress and the World Cup is delaying the move for the South American.
