Chelsea are in a race against time to complete the switch for Gonzalo Higuain as AC Milan seem to be fighting hard to keep the front man in the Serie A.
Higuain has been identified by Maurizio Sarri as his number one target. The duo spent one season together at Napoli. That season remains the attacker’s best in the Serie A so far and they both seem keen on a reunion.
In the 2015/2016 season, Higuain netted 36 times in 35 league matches, and 38 goals overall. He is now 30 years old, but remains one of the most coveted attackers in the world.
However, Milan are very keen on landing a new attacker who has experience of the Italian league. The Blues attacker, Alvaro Morata is also on Milan’s shortlist for the position.
Higuain would reportedly cost the Blues around £60 million and would demand a salary of about £150,000 per week.
Sarri claims to have little or no interest in the transfer market, but he has two strikers who misfired greatly last season. Morata’s goals dried after the new year, while Olivier Giroud who replaced the Spaniard as first choice also did little to help fire the Blues to a Champions League spot.
