Real Madrid have become the latest team to be linked with a move for Tottenham defender, Toby Alderweireld as the Belgian continues to delay signing a new Tottenham deal.
Alderweireld is looking to break Tottenham’s current wage ceiling which is set at £110, 000 per week, but the Lilywhites are not prepared to do that yet. He has 18 months left on his current Spurs deal, but he has just returned from injury and is yet to play a Premier League game for Mauricio Pochettino.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly monitoring his contract situation as the Portuguese manager continues to search for suitable replacements for Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
Real Madrid have struggled to defend this season, often conceding cheap equalizers, and the clubs hierarchy are prepared to invest in new defenders next summer.
Tottenham have the option of extending Toby’s current deal beyond next season, but that would activate a release clause of £25 million which his suitors would be very delighted to pay considering the current state of the transfer market.
Chelsea and Arsenal also have interest in the Belgian, but the duo are direct rivals of Tottenham and the Belgian would not want to spoil his reputation by moving to any of them.
