Manchester City are close to paying £22 million for the signature of Portugal U-21 international star Rafael Leao. The youngster is currently regarded as one of the best young attackers in Europe because of his exploits in his home land.
Chelsea have also been watching him and the Blues are his other very serious suitors, however, Arab News is claiming that Manchester City are set to steal a march on the Premier League champions.
He has scored 12 goals in 19 games this season, with six of those goals coming in 11 league games where he has also provided one assist.
Sporting know they have a gem in their hands and the Portuguese side are not in a hurry to cash in on the attacker, Sun Sport claims that they have already rejected a number of proposals from European sides this season.
The attention he was bringing forced Sporting to give him a new deal in October last year, however, there is provision for clubs who are serious about signing him to get their man as he has a £53 million release clause written into his deal.
For now the Portuguese club is focused on helping him reach his potential.
